Since the end of 2022, NSP Avocats has been assisting numerous victims in connection with a large-scale online scam involving fraudulent investment schemes. Several platforms are implicated. These platforms concealed victims’ funds by using various online payment processors and neobanks, including the Swedish bank Intergiro.

Intergiro suspected of involvement in a money laundering case

According to the information available to us, the investigation into Intergiro has uncovered the existence of a large criminal network based in Cyprus, which is believed to have misappropriated at least €220 million over the past three years.

By tracing financial flows from victims, it was established that part of these funds passed through the online bank Intergiro. However, the total amount involved is likely significantly higher, as additional funds were also routed through institutions such as Clear Junction Limited, Incore Bank AG, Blackthorn Finance Ltd, Swissquote, and Wise Europe SA.

This international network is said to operate primarily through call centers located in Georgia. However, investigations have revealed a much broader organization, with operations across several European Union countries as well as Israel. The Swedish investigation has identified no fewer than 26,800 victims across 34 countries.

Behind the bank accounts used by this network are several companies established in different European countries. The Swedish investigation is currently focusing on three companies based in Lithuania. These entities appear to have no real commercial activity: two are reportedly managed by nominee directors, while the third appears to be fictitious.

This situation has raised concerns among investigators, as a bank such as Intergiro is required, under applicable regulations, to verify the identity of its clients, monitor transactions, and intervene where suspicious activity is detected. In this context, Intergiro is currently under investigation by the Swedish financial regulator, the Finansinspektionen, which is examining whether the bank complies with its anti-money laundering obligations. The investigation is reportedly in its final stage. Intergiro’s official position is that combating fraud attempts represents its “biggest challenge and investment.” The bank states that it cooperates with the relevant authorities and maintains a dedicated team focused on fraud prevention and anti-money laundering.

NSP Avocats is closely monitoring developments in this case, which involves a significant number of victims whom we represent.
